Revelation Bible Study Part 2: The Prophets of the End Times

Revelation Bible Study Part 2: The Prophets of the End Times

When John wrote the visions of Revelation, he wasn’t creating something brand new. He was being shown the same prophetic patterns that God had already revealed to His prophets' centuries earlier. That’s why, if you want to understand Revelation, you must first listen to the prophets.

Revelation is like a tapestry woven from Daniel, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Joel, and Zechariah. When you start with their words, the symbols in Revelation stop feeling mysterious — they start feeling familiar.

🔥 Daniel: The Blueprint of Kingdoms

Daniel saw the rise and fall of kingdoms, beasts representing empires, and the coming of the Son of Man (Daniel 7). He also revealed the 70 weeks prophecy (Daniel 9) that points directly to the Messiah and the end of the age.

When John describes the Beast rising from the sea in Revelation 13, it mirrors Daniel’s vision of the four beasts in Daniel 7. Daniel sets the stage for the battle between God’s kingdom and the kingdoms of this world.

🌩 Ezekiel: The Throne and the Final War

Ezekiel was given visions of God’s glory that match what John later saw in Revelation 4. The wheels, the living creatures, the throne — all appear again in John’s vision.

Ezekiel 38–39 also describes Gog and Magog, a climactic end-times battle. Revelation 20 uses the same language when describing the final war against God’s people.

🌍 Isaiah: Judgment and Renewal

Isaiah is often called the “fifth gospel” because of its Messianic prophecies, but it also reveals God’s plan for the end of the world.

  • Isaiah 24 describes global judgment and upheaval.

  • Isaiah 65–66 promises a new Heavens and a new earth, the same vision John sees in Revelation 21.

🌒 Joel: The Day of the Lord

Joel speaks of locust armies, fire, and cosmic signs — imagery repeated in Revelation. Joel 2:31 says, “The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.” John echoes this in Revelation 6 when the sixth seal is opened.

🌿 Zechariah: The Coming King

Zechariah gives us visions of lampstands, olive trees, and horses — the very images John sees. In Zechariah 14, he describes the Lord standing on the Mount of Olives and becoming King over the whole earth — the very climax of Revelation 19.

📖 Where to Start This Week

If you want to prepare for Revelation, begin with:

  • Daniel 7 & 12

  • Ezekiel 1 & 38–39

  • Isaiah 24 & 65–66

  • Joel 2

  • Zechariah 12 & 14

Take notes as you read. Write down symbols, animals, cosmic signs, battles, and promises — then compare them with Revelation. You’ll begin to see how perfectly God’s Word connects.

🙏 Final Thought

God doesn’t hide His plan from His people. He repeats it across generations, through different prophets, until it all comes together in the final revelation of Jesus Christ.

When you read the prophets, you’re not just studying history — you’re being prepared for what is still to come.

Stay tuned for Part 3: The Words of Jesus, where we’ll see how Christ Himself explained the end times long before John recorded them.
